Painting in my garden weather permitting

About Me

Born in Biarritz of a Spanish mother and a British father I was lucky to spend my childhood in the French Basque Country. Later on I went to school and university in the UK where I discovered drawing, watercolours and but also pottery and wood carving. I then trained as a landscape architect at Edinburgh University before moving back to France in the early eighties which explains my interest in landscape painting, architecture and plants.

My artistic culture stems from one of my aunts who was a painter. She dragged me to museums and encouraged me to discover some the landscape painters I love such as Boudin, Bonnard, Cézanne, Corot, Claude Le Lorrain,  Monet, Manet, Berthe Morisot, Matisse, Albert Marquet, Regoyos, John Singer Sargent, Sorolla, Vuillard, Van Gogh, Wouters. I discovered oil painting at a local art school and now paint regularly with Patrick Benet, whose painting I particularly appreciate.

Painting outdoors is what I prefer because it brings me closer to nature and heightens my sense of observation. I find it easier to sketch outdoors using watercolours: those are the best moments of the summer season
